BKW Families,
Prior to the start of a new school year, administrators, teachers, and faculty work in preparation to finalize planning to ensure a positive transition for the upcoming year. As part of that effort, one form that is important for our district families to fill out is the lunch application. We are asking all of our families to submit this form in order for the district to be considered for future funding and support service opportunities.
Why is it important?
Each year, the Berne-Knox-Westerlo Central School District receives state and federal funding to support the food services operation. Funding opportunities are based on the number of families that submit their application for this critical program. If every single family completes the application, regardless of individual needs, all students could receive free breakfast and free lunch. Today, I am asking you to complete the application as part of our districtwide team effort to qualify for this opportunity for every single student.
If the district qualifies, the free breakfast and lunch opportunity will last for five years. This would be a huge benefit for students, the district, and the community. So, please submit an application. The more applications, the better our chances. It also allows our district to be considered for additional funding to further strengthen our school mission statement “They are because we are.” As a community, this will provide greater opportunities to serve our school community, while building opportunities for tomorrow’s students.
As a reminder, this form needs to be submitted each year for every BKW student and can be found on the food services page here. Forms are also available at your student(s) main office and some elementary families will receive them in their students’ backpacks. We are working to make this process as convenient and streamlined as possible for you to submit your application.
We know that our community plays an important role in making our district a success.
We thank you for your consideration in submitting this application.
Respectfully,
Dr. Timothy Mundell
Superintendent of Schools
