On March 25, 2025, the BKW PTA will launch the Pick A Reading Partner (PARP) program, running through April 11. PARP encourages students to read with a partner—whether a parent, grandparent, babysitter, older sibling, cousin, or friend—for at least 20 minutes each day. Originally developed in 1978 by New York State Senator James Donovan, this program highlights the importance of reading for young learners.
This year’s theme is “Reading is Out of This World!” Get ready for an exciting journey through books!
How It Works
On March 24, 2025, students will have the opportunity to participate in a Book Swap, where they can select a “new-to-them” book. Each week, students who return their completed slips will earn fun prizes and be recognized at the next Bulldog Show. Additionally, the PTA will reward the class with the highest participation with a pizza party!
This year’s program includes an exciting experience for students! From April 8–10, 2025, MiSci will bring its traveling planetarium to the BKW Elementary Gymnasium. Every elementary student, from Pre-K through Grade 6, will have the opportunity to attend Storytime with the Constellations. This engaging presentation explores how ancient cultures saw their mythology in the stars and how these stories continue to guide us in mapping the night sky—from the closest constellations to those far beyond.
Thank you to the BKW PTA for delivering this special opportunity for our elementary students.
