BKW senior Arlan Wright is building his professional resume while combining his interest in helping others with his business foresight. Since August, Arlan has created an internship opportunity that could mark the beginning of his business pathway while helping those needing prosthetics and orthotics. His passion for the industry is straightforward, and because Arlan was born with Sporadic Ectrodactyly, which allows him to utilize only two fingers on his left hand, he has a connection with clients needing support. He has a keen understanding of what the clients at Mountainview Prosthetics go through from a personal level, and he’s learning the business model from the ground up.

“Since last year, I’ve been able to participate in an internship program with the Founder and Owner of Mountainview Prosthetics, Mr. Cyr,” shared Mr. Wright. “I think I bring a personal understanding of what client’s need and their expectations in helping them become happy with the product and how we can change their lives. I’m learning how a business model works and how it can help me become a better business owner. Plus, we’re helping numerous clients from across the country that count on our experience.”

During his internship, Arlan is utilizing Computer Aided Design (CAD) technology to create prosthetic molds and is helping to fabricate lower limb prosthetics and orthotics (i.e. braces, lifts for feet). He is also gaining valuable experience in understanding the aspects of running a business, from supply chain affecting resources to building prosthetics, time management, budgeting, and customer relations. In the fall, he will attend the State University of New York at Albany to study Business Entrepreneurship.
