If you followed the district’s winter sports season, you knew you were witnessing a historic time for our student-athletes! This year was memorable, and if you think about it, during one calendar year, the 2023-24 girls’ softball team and the 2024-25 boys’ hoops team brought home championship glory to our community. Plus, throw in a three-sport state champion (we’re looking at you, Arlan) and we have quite the dynasty brewing at BKW.
But we cannot do it without the support of our families, caregivers, boosters, and school staff who ensure our student-athletes are at the top of their game. Thank you to all our coaches and volunteers for your time and effort to create memories for our district.
Now, on to the good stuff.
Boys’ Basketball

BKW delivered a historic season! The 2024-25 team posted the first-ever perfect season in the history of the district’s 91-year basketball (boys’) program. One of the sweetest moments was handing our rival Duanesburg, who finished 21–3, all three of their losses. The biggest one came in a narrow victory in the Section 2 championship game. Our team never looked back, steamrolling the competition throughout the New York State tournament with an average victory of 15 points to be crowned NYS Class C Champions! The future is bright, and the expectations are high for 2025-26. Thank you to everyone who helped us along the way! We appreciate all who donated to our team!!!
Girls’ Basketball

The girls’ varsity basketball finished another successful winter season with a record of 18-5. The team was co-champions of the Blue Division of the WAC and named the overall WAC Cup Champions. Senior Katie Stevens was selected as a WAC 1st team all-star, a Section 2 Class C All-Star and a Section 2 scholar-athlete. Olivia Kirker and Molly Shaver were also 1st Team WAC All-Stars. Emily Edwards and Annie Lendrum were recognized as 2nd Team WAC All-Stars. The program will miss seniors Katie Stevens, Lexie Malanga, Emily Edwards, Natalie Elble, and Elise Lendrum.
Indoor Track & Field

The 2024-25 varsity BWK Indoor Track team had its most successful season in program history. This year’s team posted fifteen new school records. Every athlete set at least one new personal record (PR), and a record number of athletes received Sectional awards. Seven athletes competed at the State Qualifying Meet. Kole Irwin advanced to the State Championship Meet in Staten Island, New York City.
Four (Boys’) varsity athletes ran in the NYS High School Showcase at the Armory in NYC and captured three First Place Finishes, 2 Second Place, 1 Third Place, and 1 Sixth Place. These results were better than almost all of the other 14 schools, each of whom brought between 20 and 45 athletes.
We will miss our outgoing Seniors Emma McFadden, Brooke Reamer, Katie Stevens, Athena Tobia, Owen Lounsbury, Arlan Wright, Shaine Basle, and Matthew Cyr. Thanks for a great season!
Wrestling

BKW Wrestling had an outstanding postseason after finishing fifth in the WAC overall for the 2024-25 season. This year’s team placed second in the Section 2 Class D tournament, with eight members making the top three. This year’s team included seven finalists, with four Class D Champions: Liam English, Gabe English, Lincoln Snyder, and Matt Cyr. We had three team members finishing second: Andrew Ballato, Christian Arsenault, and Matthew Dibble. Anthony Miller finished out with a third-place finish.
BKW Wrestling finished fourth in the Section 2 Division 2 Tournament out of 33 teams, with Gabe English and Liam English being crowned champions and qualifying for the state tournament. In addition, Lincoln Snyder and Matthew Dibble finished fourth. At the NYSPHSAA State Championships, Gabe English was named a State Finalist, and Liam English placed third. BKW made their mark overall, finishing 14th in points out of 125 schools.
During the 2024-25 season, our team placed fourth at the Glens Falls Mat Mania Tournament, finished sixth at Hudson Falls, placed fourth at Leo Sammon at Central Valley Academy, completed a strong season with a 14th place finish at Dan Wickham and fourth at Glenville duals and seventh at the Ken Baker.
Cheerleading

A great season for the BKW cheerleading team! Emma Detlefsen, Diana Colavito, and Evelyn Hopkins were selected to perform with top athletes nationwide in the Magic Kingdom. The team cheered on the boys’ basketball team for all varsity home games and the holiday tournament. They had fun raising spirit in the community, planning the pep rally, and hosting the youth camp!
The team had a strong competition season, finishing second and third in local competitions and becoming Section 2 Champions for Class D. The team represented BKW in the State Competition, where Emma Detlefsen was honored with the sportsmanship award. The team placed ninth in New York State for Class D Cheerleading. Great job!
Bowling

The 2024-25 team faced a challenging year after losing five seniors to graduation, but this year’s team moved along to conquer the lanes. This year’s team fielded a five-person team and came away with a few key wins in a shortened season due to re-sectioning (as our league had to split into zones). The team held their own at the WAC tournament but couldn’t push past a number of injuries. Special recognition to Anthony Morseman for being named to the WAC South All-Star team.
