BKW senior Brianna Beisly joined with fellow Career and Technical Education (CTE) students and SkillsUSA members and officials from Capital Region BOCES in Albany on Legislative Advocacy Day on Feb. 26.
“I was chosen to represent SkillsUSA as well as Capital Region BOCES,” Brianna said. “I spoke with senators as well as assembly members about my experience in my program at BOCES, Home Health Aide/Patient Care Assistant.
“I explained what SkillsUSA was and how students benefit from the programs. Our goal was to try and give them a reason to continue to fund and/or increase the funding for Capital Region BOCES.
“My team was also invited onto the senate floor to witness them voting on a bill to make the month of February CTE Month.”
Among the legislators Brianna and the team met with were Assemblymembers McDonald, Tague and Walsh, Senator Mayer and the chief of staff for Senator Amedore.
SkillsUSA is a national organization of CTE students.
