Q&A with BKW valedictorian Jodie Howland

BKW Class of 2024 valedictorian Jodie Howland.

As we move towards the completion of the 2023-2024 school year, the district is proud to honor students who have excelled in the classroom, CTE programs, arts and music programs, and athletics. We are now excited to introduce the Class of 2024 valedictorian Jodie Howland. This fall, she plans on continuing her studies at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), majoring in chemical engineering. Today, we share her personal insight in this week’s Q&A.

How will you remember your time at BKW?

I’ll best remember BKW for the wonderful friends that I’ve made here. They’ve all helped me to become who I am today, encouraging me to try new things and become a more social person. I’ll also fondly remember the amazing teachers that I’ve had, each of them significant in contributing to my love of learning.

What are your future plans?

In college, I plan on majoring in chemical engineering. After that, I’ll likely look into research opportunities, especially those pertaining to energy, as I’ve greatly enjoyed the subject. While still in college, I’ll be taking advantage of WPI’s curriculum that allows for students to travel abroad multiple times, getting a chance to see what the rest of the world is like.

What advice would you give to students?

If I were to give any advice, it would be to not be afraid to make new friends and try new things. I’ve become more open and social as a result, reducing the amount of stress I’ve felt through the reassurance that I have such wonderful people looking out for me.
