On April 25, BKW Senior Gabriella Audino won this year's Criminal Justice State Championship at the Action Skills Competition in Syracuse, NY, for her oral presentation on Latent Fingerprinting. In addition to her attendance at BKW, Audino is a Criminal Justice student in the SkillsUSA program, which is hosted by Capital Region BOCES. SkillsUSA is a national partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce.
The Action Skills Competition lets students present an occupational skill in which they have received classroom training. They are asked to explain their skills to a panel of judges while using visual aids and an original display. Audio selected the topic of Latent Fingerprinting because of her interest in Criminal Investigation. She received an academic scholarship for New Haven University and will attend there in the fall to pursue her goal of working as an FBI Investigator.
Audino is an officer of the regional SkillsUSA student program and a member of the National Honor Society.
Last year, Audino competed and won first place at the regional Action Skills Competition and placed fifth at the state level. After this year's first place finish in the state competition, she will head to Kansas City, Missouri, for a week in June to represent New York in the national competition. She will compete against 50 other students from the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and Guam. If she wins the national title, she will travel to Germany to compete in the SkillsUSA World Competition.
Good luck Gabby!
