On July 18, the BKW Board of Education unanimously approved the appointment of Audrey H. Roettgers as the district’s new elementary school principal. Roettgers began her work with the district on July 29, filling a vacancy created when Regina Yeo accepted a position with another school district.
Roettgers brings a wealth of elementary-level teaching and administrative experience to the Berne-Knox-Westerlo school community. Prior to her appointment at BKW, Roettgers was the supervisor of professional development with Rockland BOCES. Since 2000, she has also held positions as Interim Assistant Principal at Vail Farm Elementary School and Supervisor of Curriculum for Science and Engineering in Arlington Central School District. She was also the Director and Head Teacher at Good News Preschool in Red Hook, NY and Director of Summer Learning at the East Hartford—Glastonbury Elementary Magnet School in East Hartford, CT.
Roettgers has a bachelor of arts degree in English from Bryn Mawr College, a master of arts in teaching from the Teachers College at Columbia University and received a sixth year diploma in Educational Administration from the University of Connecticut.
Roettgers is excited to be joining the school district team at a time when many important educational changes are happening locally, and at the state and national levels.
“I hope to introduce an educational model that
addresses the needs of each learner in the BKW elementary school
community with continuity and coherence across the grade levels,” said
