With Hurricane Sandy making its way up the Eastern Seaboard, now may be a good time to review how we communicate school closings, delays and early dismissals:
Cancellations, delays or early dismissals are posted on the school district’s website, www.bkwschools.org. Please always check here first. (Please note: Unless otherwise noted, all scheduled activities at BKW schools are canceled on the days school is closed or closes early.)
Closing information will also be sent directly to your email account via the district's School News Notifier (SNN) system. However, due to the volume of closing notifications sent and precautions put in place by the recipient's email server, these notifications may not be received immediately.
Also remember, that because of foreseen power outages, there may be an incapability or delay in getting updated information posted to the school website and SNN e-mail notifier system. Because of this, it is a good idea to use our local media outlets to keep you informed.
School closings are also on the following local TV and radio stations:
Channel 6, Channel 10, Capital News 9, Channel 13, Fox 23, WGY (810 AM), WFLY (92.3 FM), WYJB (95.5 FM), and WRVE (99.5 FM); as well as at www.timesunion.com.
New York State also has an emergency alert system that can send you text messages, phone calls and e-mails about dangerous weather. You can sign up here: https://users.nyalert.gov/
Thank you and stay safe!
